You'll find some basic guidelines in the HooksexupCenter Etiquette. The legal contract establishing the rules for access to and use of this site is the Hooksexup Terms of Service: this is what you agree to when you become a HooksexupCenter member. Click here to review the Terms of Service.
Is HooksexupCenter free?
Most of it is, yes. All members get a free HooksexupCenter homepage and email address, and access to the personals, chat, e-cards, horoscopes, Em & Lo's advice column, photography galleries and some message boards. Click here for a free membership. You'll need to purchase Hooksexup credits in order to respond to a personal ad or initiate a session in the Instant Gratifier. Can I change my membername?
We're sorry, you can't change your membername. However, if you really can't stand the membername you have, please let us know via our help form that you'd like your old account deleted so you can sign up for a new one. Note: if you do this, you will be setting up a completely new account and will lose any personal ads, profiles, homepages and credits associated with your old account.

I log in and click go and nothing happens. What's going on?
If you are sure that you are entering the correct membername and password (click here to confirm them) this is probably because you have cookies turned off on your browser. We use cookies to keep you logged in across the site (because HooksexupCenter is made up of so many different services). You will neeed to set your browser to accept cookies in order to stay logged in on HooksexupCenter. You can set your browser to accept cookies in the "preferences" menu of your browser. (We only use cookies that are sent back to themselves, and we only use them to keep you logged in: we don't track any information from them. Click here to read our Privacy Vow.)
What are Hooksexup credits?
Credits are the currency on this site (we resisted the temptation to call them dirty money) you can buy credits here and then use them to respond to personal ads and initiate sessions in the Instant Gratifier. (Remember, it's free to post an ad and reply to all Personal Ad responses and Instant Gratifier messages that you receive.) If you don't have any credits and you try to respond to a personal ad or send someone an IG note, you will be taken to the "Buy Credits" page where you can choose which credits package you would like to purchase.
Where can I spend Hooksexup credits?
You can spend credits in Personals and in the Instant Gratifier. It costs one credit to reply to a personal ad, one credit to accept a Collect Call in Personals, two credits to initiate a 30-minute session in the Instant Gratifier and three credits to start a 60-minute I.G. session. Purchased credits never expire. And you will always be notified and asked to confirm intent before a credit is ever deducted from your account.

What is the Instant Gratifier?
The Instant Gratifier is just that a way to chat with your fellow HooksexupCenter members who are online right now. You can search the HooksexupCenter member profiles (to send a Hooksexup IG note) or the HooksexupCenter Personals (to send a Personals IG note). It's like an instant messenger, localized to your very own community of thoughtful hedonists. And if you have a nice time IG-ing with someone, don't forget to add them to your Friend File (in the Hooksexup IG) or Hot List (in the Personals IG) so you'll be alerted the next time they're online!
The console (in the bottom left corner of your screen, in the frame to the left of the banner ad) will always let you know (after you've logged in) how many people are online in Hooksexup and Personals, and how many new messages you have.
The pop-up window (which opens as soon as you click on any of the buttons in the console, or any IG buttons anywhere else on the site) is where you can send and read messages and find out if your friends are online. Click here to read the complete Instant Gratifier help section.
How do I find out which members are online now?
Click on the "6,543 in Hooksexup" link in the console the console is the control panel in the bottom left corner of your screen, in the frame to the left of the banner ad. ("6,543" is just a random example: the number will change depending on how many people are online in Hooksexup at that time.) This link will take you to the member profiles search page: when you're browsing member profiles, look for the blinking green light that indicates a member who is online right now. And if they're online hey, why not send them an IG note?
What if I don't want other members to know I'm online?
Just click on the "hide me" link in the Instant Gratifier pop-up window. If you don't see the pop-up window, click on any link in the console (the control panel in the bottom left corner of your screen, in the frame to the left of the banner ad) to make it appear. When you're ready to be "online" again, just click on the "show me" button in the pop-up window.
You can also hide yourself by clicking on the "account status" link at the bottom of any page on Hooksexup scroll down to the fields "Your status in the Hooksexup Instant Gratifier" and "Your status in the Personals Instant Gratifier" and check the appropriate boxes.
What's the difference between my account and my member profile?
Your account is the information you entered when you registered for HooksexupCenter, and also any billing information you may have asked us to save. Your account is where you go to find out how many credits you have left, permanently hide yourself in the Instant Gratifier, etc. Your account is completely private and only you have access to this information. (Click here to read Hooksexup's Privacy Vow.) Click on the "account status" link at the bottom of any page on Hooksexup to view or edit your account.

NOTE: The Personals notes that come to this email address are routed through our anonymous personals system, so the person responding to your ad does not know your email address; they only know the personal nickname (not your HooksexupCenter membername) that is on your ad.

Click on the "account status" link at the bottom of any page on Hooksexup and scroll down to the HooksexupNews question: make sure you have selected "yes," and then click the "update account" button.

What's the privacy policy around here?
Funny you should ask: check out our Privacy Vow. In a nutshell: we will never sell your contact information. Period. We only share demographic information in an aggregate form to keep our advertisers happy.
How do I log out?
Click on the logout button at the bottom of any HooksexupCenter page. Note: If you share a computer with another HooksexupCenter member, or if you are using a public computer terminal (e.g. in a Cyber Cafe or on a university campus), you should also quit your browser after logging out. (Currently, there is no logout button available on the email application; however, if you just quit your browser after checking your email, that will log you out of HooksexupCenter.)

I bought the credits package with the print magazine and need to change my shipping address.
To change the shipping address of your print magazine subscription, you'll need to go to https://www.Hooksexupprint.com and log in there (even if your subscription came free with a purchase of Hooksexup credits). To login to HooksexupPrint: your account ID is printed on the label of every issue of the magazine you receive, and your password is your HooksexupCenter membername. If you can't find your account ID, let us know via our help form. (Don't forget to select the "print magazine" category.)
